On stage, pyrotechnics look nothing like a public display: these are close-proximity effects, triggered on the precise cue of a song, under a roof, a few metres from the artists and crew. Gerbs, flames, comets, cold fountains, mines and spark curtains replace shells. Each effect has its distance to persons, its height, its burn time, and must fit into the show’s technical rider. Rehearsals matter as much as the show: cues are locked with the control desk, smoke extraction is tested, positions are checked.
The client is a production company, a promoter or the festival itself, with a production or stage manager as your contact. They send a rider, a stage plot, set-up times to the minute, and expect a product list, certificates and up-to-date insurance from you. A tour multiplies the dates, each venue or site has its own approvals, sometimes a fire officer on duty to convince on the day. The traps: an effect swapped without updating the plan, a cue shifted after a setlist change, stock exhausted by the third date.
PyroDesk opens one dossier per tour date, or a festival dossier with its stages, shared with subcontractors and the pyrotechnicians assigned on mission. The quote goes out in five minutes, the production signs the contract online, and the documents (product sheets, layout plan, authority declaration) stay attached to a dossier you can open on a tablet at the desk. The firing plan lists cues and effects with their distances; stock tracks consumption date after date and warns before running out. Internal messaging keeps a record of exchanges with the stage manager.
