On 21 June, the Fête de la Musique fills city centres in France and in many other countries; alongside it, cultural festivals, all-night arts events and season openings increasingly ask for a closing fireworks display. The setting is urban and dense: a square, a forecourt, a riverside, with the audience a few dozen metres away and façades all around.
