CE marking certifies that a pyrotechnic article has been assessed by a notified body against the essential requirements of Directive 2013/29/EU, applicable since 1 July 2015 after Directive 2007/23/EC. It is mandatory for all categories F1 to F4, T1, T2, P1 and P2, and in France replaced the former national approval by K groups. The label bears the CE logo followed by the notified body's four-digit number, the category, the registration number (body, year, product) provided for by Directive 2014/58/EU, the minimum age, the safety distance, the net explosive content, instructions in the national language and the manufacturer's or importer's details. A firework without compliant CE marking may be neither sold nor used in the Union, and firing one in a display engages the pyrotechnician's liability.
In practice, for the display company
The CE registration number is the key linking a shell to its instructions, its distance and its batch. PyroDesk records it once per reference, ties it to the product sheet imported from the supplier and carries it onto the CERFA's list of fireworks, where some prefectures now require it.
