Definition
Category F3 comprises fireworks presenting a medium hazard, intended for outdoor use in large open areas, whose noise level is not harmful to health: cakes of several dozen shots, roman candles up to about 30 mm, rockets, small-calibre shells depending on the manufacturer's classification. The minimum safety distance is 15 m (EN 15947). In France sale and use are restricted to adults, without any qualification certificate. It is the flagship category of consumer "display kits" and of small professional jobs: a pyrotechnician may fire a display entirely in F3 without a CERFA, provided the total net explosive content, F2 included, stays under 35 kg. Beyond that, or as soon as a single F4 article is added, the declaration becomes mandatory.
In practice, for the display company
The sub-35 kg F3 display is the entry product for weddings and small-budget village committees.
