A home-made Access database deserves respect. Whoever built it spent evenings modelling items with calibre and category, batches with dates, shows with firing lists. It fits the trade better than most commercial software, because it was made by someone who fires. Its flaw is not functional: it is that it lives in one file, on one computer, in the hands of one person who is also the owner, the salesperson and the firing supervisor.
The limits arrive with growth and time. A second pyrotechnician who wants to check stock from the van cannot. An operating system update breaks a form. Clients now expect a quote they can sign on their phone, the administration expects an electronic invoice, the authority an up-to-date form. Every new requirement is a programming job in the evening after the set-ups, and nobody else can take it over.
PyroDesk takes the data model you already know — your existing tables can be imported — and moves it to a server the whole crew can reach, on computer, tablet and phone.
