Risk assessment

Definition

The risk assessment is the study, specific to each display, that identifies the hazards arising from the site, the products and the firing conditions, then sets the measures to reduce them. It covers the surroundings (vegetation, buildings, utilities, water, aerodromes), the products (calibres, net explosive content, fallout), the organisation (access, lighting, radio communication, duds, fire, injury) and human factors (fatigue, intoxicated audience, crowd pressure). In France it is not a CERFA form, but it feeds the layout drawing and the declared distances, and most insurers require it, as does the prevention plan whenever the company works on a third party's premises. In the United Kingdom the written risk assessment is the central obligation of health and safety law, since no prior authorisation exists.

In practice, for the display company

A useful risk assessment fits on two pages and is reread the day before the show. PyroDesk builds the outline from the job file (site, products, crew, weather) and stores it alongside the CERFA, the prevention plan and the insurance certificate, so the lead pyrotechnician has everything in one place on their phone.
