Definition
The trade distinguishes three roles. The lead pyrotechnician is, in French texts, the "responsable de la mise en œuvre" or display supervisor: holding the level 2 F4-T2 qualification certificate or a prefectoral approval, they sign CERFA 14098, set the distances, run the set-up and decide to fire or to stop. The firer is the person who actually triggers the fireworks, by hand or from the desk, following the firing plan; it may be the lead themselves or a designated crew member. The crew are the pyrotechnicians who rig, wire and strike; if they handle F4 or T2 articles they must hold at least the level 1 certificate or work under the direct authority of the supervisor. These roles are named individually in the declaration.
In practice, for the display company
Over a forty-show season, knowing who holds level 2 and is free on a given Saturday is the real headache. PyroDesk keeps a record for each pyrotechnician (certificate, number, expiry date, seasonal contract) and assigns roles per job; the supervisor's name and certificate number flow straight into the CERFA.
