Definition
Weather decides whether a display can go ahead, and wind is the decisive parameter: it shifts the fallout zone, bends candle trajectories and pushes smoke onto the audience. No French text sets a national maximum speed; the display supervisor fixes a limit before firing, typically between 30 and 50 km/h in gusts depending on calibre, audience orientation and site sensitivity. Rain does not prevent firing as long as the equipment is protected, but thunderstorms rule out any work on electric firing lines. Drought triggers prefectoral bans. The decision to postpone or cancel is taken on measured readings, not impressions, and is recorded in writing with the organiser.
In practice, for the display company
Wind is measured on site with an anemometer, but the trend is watched from three days out.
