Definition
A pyromusical show is a fireworks display designed and fired in synchronisation with a soundtrack: each effect is placed on the music to within a tenth of a second, allowing for the shells' rise time, which varies from two to five seconds depending on calibre. Synchronisation relies on a digital firing system driven by a time code (SMPTE or FSK) recorded on a track of the soundtrack or generated by the design software, and on electric igniters wired to firing modules. From a regulatory standpoint nothing separates it from a standard display: same categories, same CERFA, same distances. Playing the music in public does, however, require the organiser to file with the SACEM collecting society, and open-air sound levels are governed by the French noise decree of 7 August 2017 for events broadcasting amplified sound.
